LEADERSHIP

I promise you this. If elected I will bring a transformation of Marina City Council Chambers into a receptive and welcoming environment for Marina's workers and residents. I believe this is fundamental to all other needs in this City.

JOB CREATION ~ LIVING WAGE JOBS DURING CONSTRUCTION AND AFTER

As a former City Council member, Bruce has consistently advocated for workers rights to good jobs and job creation based upon green, energy efficient technology and what is appropriate for Marina now and in the future. This means university-relevant businesses such as REI outdoor stores and family-relevant developments such as mixed use, mixed income, energy efficient and affordable new and remodeled neighborhoods where people can live, work, play and minimize their need to travel in cars to satisfy their lifestyle.

HUGE NEW DEVELOPMENTS????

Coming to Marina: Cypress Knolls new retirement community and airport business park/sports complex. These can be part of the problem or solution. Affordable, energy efficient, smart designs that blend incomes and uses such as commercial and residential and recreation are the solution for any growth to bring real prosperity to Marina.

COMMUNITY

Measure E Bruce believes we choose our future. In 2000 Bruce helped lead the successful effort to establish the only Urban Growth Boundary in Monterey County. Marina voters agreed to focus 20 years of growth on Fort Ord and inside existing city limits. That vision today is agreed on by all to protect open space while encouraging smart growth. Bruce maintains this Marina vision for a prosperous future.

MARINA'S TRANSIT STATION

Marina Transit Station- More than a bus station. As a Marina City Councilman and director of Monterey Salinas Transit, Bruce worked hard for 4 years to improve mass transit in Marina and set aside land for future commercial and residential uses for a vibrant transit village. As Mayor, Bruce will work to complete this vision.

Downtown redevelopment is a prime opportunity. We should be encouraging youthful energetic businesses such as coffee houses, bike, computer, and bookstores, unique grocery stores, café's, etc. with professional offices and nighttime entertainment for young and old. We can be a much better downtown family and university town.

We can finance a restructured Del Monte and Reservation Rd. to be better for business and safer for bikes, walking, and recreation. Roundabouts should be an important and exciting component of this vision.

YOUTH

Supporting Marina Youth Bruce is committed to providing educational and recreational opportunities for our youth. He worked hard to provide an after-school music program, a summer flag football season, and to support the Marina Youth Arts program. Bruce was also instrumental in the creation of the Marina Farmers Market and continues in his 5th year as its treasurer.
