Smart Voter Official Statement for Vicki Gordon

Candidate for
Board Member; Contra Costa Community College District; Ward 2

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

My name is: Vicki Gordon

My age is: 51

My occupation is: Educator, Board Member and Community Volunteer

Education and Qualifications:

The Community College District is the cornerstone of our higher education system. I am running for the Board because the expertise, leadership and energy I bring as a career educator and school board member is needed now more than ever. We need new leadership to improve the performance of students transferring to four-year universities, to better work with high schools to prepare our students for college-level challenges, and to grow vocational education programs. Classes should be more affordable. We need to do a better job!

My experience as a classroom teacher and as a school board trustee for the past 15 years represent critically important qualifications for managing the District. I am also a parent and volunteer, raising money for Education Foundations, Booster groups and PTAs to improve libraries, music, athletics, and technology in our schools.

I am a vigilant and careful steward of the public's money. My proven track record as a fiscally responsible board member demonstrates the ability to work with limited state funding; balance budgets; effectively bargain with employee groups to control costs and make students the priority; and developing facilities to employ technology advances so that our students are better prepared for their future.
