My passion for students and schools has its roots well grounded in my family. My mother, Brenda Byers was a teacher and elementary school principal for 30 years. My husband, Scott, has been a law professor at UC extension and I taught in Martinez and Pittsburg before becoming a school board member for the past 15 years.

I was born and raised in the East Bay, I graduated from College Park High School, attended DVC while waiting tables at local restaurants and received my BS in Business administration from California State University at Hayward (now CSUEB). I started volunteering in the classroom and soon became a substitute teacher before returning to get my teaching credential.

I have been married for 26 years to Scott Gordon. We have two children. My daughter is a senior at UCSD. She is on the UCSD soccer team. My son is a sophomore at DVC and plans to swim for them in the spring.
