Smart Voter Official Statement for Bob Evans

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Chico

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Do you know that Chico has continued to spend beyond its means? Alarmingly, we have already spent most of our reserves, including our emergency reserves! Also, we owe our Private Development Fund $9,949,000 to bring it into balance, and we have $63,700,000 in unfunded pension liabilities!

My commitment to you is to focus on solving these problems instead of outside issues like plastic bag bans and corporate personhood. My priorities include: insisting that your tax dollars are spent wisely, paying down Chico's debt to avoid any possibility of bankruptcy, and making economic development a top priority so local businesses can grow, create jobs, and increase revenues for the city budget.

I firmly believe that promoting economic development and protecting our environment can coexist; in fact, they must. Why? Both are essential to a qi 'nifty community. Only when businesses thrive will we again afford to hire more police and firefighters, fix our aging streets, and create jobs for our unemployed. The arts community, the library, Bidwell Park, and all critical non-profits will benefit by improving our local business economy. The road to Chico's recovery begins when the Council commits to these goals.

I'm Bob Evans and I respectively request your vote.

s/ Bob Evans
