Unite for Fundamental Reform

I, John Lewallen, independent and nonpartisan candidate for U.S. Congress, am devoted to bringing people together to solve the fundamental national problems that threaten us all. I humbly invite you to join me in this vital and rewarding work.

We, the citizens of the United States of America, are one people. In peace or war, prosperity or hardship, we share the same fate, with each other, with citizens of other nations who live among us, and with the peoples of all nations.

Now our beautiful nation, our peace and prosperity, our personal freedoms, are threatened by fundamental problems at the national and international levels. We can solve these problems if we can understand them, and unite for action.

I believe that through calm, reasonable and loving discourse, we can find the paths of unity that will lead to a future of freedom, peace and prosperity.

As we enter 2012, I see several fundamental problems which, if the citizens of the United States are united, can be dealt with by the United States Congress.

Congress has the power of the purse, and the responsibility of declaring war or making peace with other nations. Congress should take money away from destructive and suicidal weapons and warfare, and appropriate money to help meet basic human needs in our homeland. Warfare in Afghanistan and Pakistan and elsewhere, space weapons and missile defense systems which are pushing us toward catastrophic global war, needless and dangerous nuclear weapons programs, are military programs which all citizens should study. Only with public understanding and support can the U.S. Congress act to save our nation from economic collapse and global warfare. This, I believe, is our most urgent task.

Congress makes laws. Working with the president, congress should end the prohibition of marijuana, a prohibition which is causing violence, economic and human waste, and harmful ignorance on many levels. This is the year to enact HR 2306, the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act, which will repeal all federal penalties for production, distribution and possession of marijuana. By bringing cannabis into the light of legalization, we can openly discuss and deal with the problems caused by marijuana abuse, and make available the many exciting therapeutic uses of cannabis now being discovered.

Congress should move to fairly tax all with a progressive tax structure, and reform the financial industry and monetary system.

To solve these and other fundamental national problems, we need unity, both locally and in our national government. We cannot afford to indulge the divisive politics which separate people into warring political camps.

As a candidate for U.S. Congress in California's Northcoast Second Congressional District, I work not to defeat the other worthy candidates, but to cooperate with all to identify fundamental national problems, and develop the best congressional actions to deal with these problems.

If elected as your independent and nonpartisan representative, I will work with all congress members to get past the partisan bickering which is driving our beautiful nation toward war and depression. We can transcend the fear and ignorance which divides us, and work together for our common good.
