About Sherry Hodges

Ready to make a difference

Sherry Hodges is a lifelong resident of San Diego County, a well-respected Encinitas resident and San Diego County native. Born at Balboa Naval Medical Center, she grew up with a love for the beach and the outdoors, Sherry and her husband Scott moved to Encinitas 32 years ago to start a carpentry business and raise their growing family. She dedicated her time to her family as a stay-at-home mother to their four children while also keeping a keen eye on the finances of the family business by handling the bookkeeping. Helping to build the family business up from the ground gave Sherry the unique understanding of the challenges facing businesses in our state.

Work Experience

Sherry possesses a unique combination of experience working in the private and public sector and both local and state government. For over twenty years, Sherry has been involved in many areas and levels of public service. She recently served as Assemblywoman Diane Harkey's Chief of Staff and prior to that served as a representative for then-Assemblyman Mark Wyland, and also served as District Director for Senator Mimi Walters. Her personal and professional life is characterized by a dedication to service through leadership, consensus building, and the forging of principled policies.

Public Service

Public service experience began for Sherry as a local elected official and leader in school reform. She was an elected member of the San Dieguito Union High School Board, where she represented the district on the boards of the Encinitas Crime Prevention Taskforce and Site Planning for La Costa Canyon High School. During her tenure, she rallied parents and community groups to support higher academic standards and prudent use of tax dollars. Due to her tireless devotion to better educational opportunities in North County, Sherry was named `Woman of the Year' in 1995 by Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian for her advocacy and work in education.

Active Lifestyle

Active in sports, schools, neighborhood and church activities for a quarter century Scott and Sherry are devoted community leaders. Sherry served on the Santa Fe Christian School Booster Board and led 40 families in a regular home school class day while educating her 3 youngest children. For 14 years, the Hodges' served as leaders in the Olivenhain Valley 4-H Club. Sherry is one of the founding members of the California Women's Leadership Association - San Diego Chapter and currently serves as a state board member to the organization, which mentors women who seek careers in public service. She also serves as a member of the San Diego County Lincoln Club, San Diego County Taxpayers Association and the Association of Naval Services Officers. In addition, she is a locally elected member of the 74th Assembly District Central Committee.

Why Sherry Hodges?

As a member of the California State Assembly, Sherry Hodges will be ready on day one to bring a strong record of public service to the California State Legislature. She will be a champion for our North County cities, which are once again being strong-armed into helping the state fill the budget gap created by overspending in Sacramento. Sherry will fight to reduce crushing taxes and fees, regulations on job creators, and work to re-prioritize and reduce state government spending and reform state pension.

Sherry continues to reside in Encinitas with her husband Scott of over 33 years, and recently became a proud grandmother.
