Local politics is broken. Back-room deals, hyper-partisanship, us-versus-them. Nathan Fletcher will bring a different approach: a new generation of leadership with a trusted track record of reform, innovation, cooperation, and progress. Nathan Fletcher is about getting things done -- not about re-fighting old battles or dividing San Diegans based on their party affiliation.

Nathan Fletcher is a leader who has shown -- from his time as a combat Marine to his time in the state Legislature -- that he can bring people together to solve problems, tackle the toughest issues, and get things done. He's done it through inclusion, by offering fresh ideas, and by working with anyone willing to compromise, regardless of their political affiliation.

Nathan Fletcher is an independent leader. In just his first term in the State Assembly serving the people of San Diego County, Fletcher had 21 pieces of legislation signed into law, including bills benefitting veterans, job creation, water infrastructure, pension reform, modernization of state government, health care, and public safety. He was instrumental in passing tax reform that will help create thousands of new California jobs -- many of them in San Diego's biotech and high-tech industries.

The Chelsea King tragedy exposed the need for reform of the state's criminal justice system. For years, partisan differences derailed real solutions, but in 2010 Nathan Fletcher took a different approach. He worked across political lines to achieve historic protections for our children with Chelsea's Law, including a true one-strike penalty for violent sexual offenders and sweeping reforms of the parole system.

Before his election to the California State Legislature, Nathan Fletcher served for ten years on active and reserve duty with the United States Marine Corps, working in counter-intelligence in the Horn of Africa and the Near East. For his service, he earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. Prior to that, he served in the Sunni Triangle region of Iraq, earning the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat "V" for valor, among others.

Assemblyman Fletcher lives in San Diego with his wife Mindy, sons Zach and Caleb, and two dogs + Jagger and Rez.
