Smart Voter Official Statement for Joe Simitian

Candidate for
County Supervisor; Santa Clara County; Supervisorial District 5

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: State Senator
Age: 59
Education and Qualifications:

Government is about helping people and solving problems. Our County government should foster opportunity, demonstrate accountability and reflect the "smarts" and common sense of our County's residents.

Having already served as State Senator, Assemblymember, County Supervisor, Mayor and School Board President, I know our community well. My public sector experience is complemented by 20 years in the private sector, a law degree and Masters in City Planning from UC Berkeley, and a Masters in International Policy Studies from Stanford University.

As your County Supervisor I'll stay in touch, remain independent, be positive in my approach to politics and governance, seek common ground and deliver results that improve the lives of the people I represent.

That means creating jobs, helping folks move from welfare to work, providing quality affordable health care, careful use of taxpayer dollars and remembering that workforce training and education are key to global competitiveness. Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, State Senator Elaine Alquist, Assemblymember Paul Fong, Supervisor Liz Kniss, Sheriff Laurie Smith, District Attorney Jeff Rosen, former State Senators Becky Morgan and Byron Sher, former Assemblymembers Jim Cuneen and Sally Lieber, the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce and the South Bay Labor Council support my candidacy.

I'd appreciate your support.
