The Democratic Party believes in fairness and progress. I am proud to be a member of the party that has been at the forefront of issues such as civil rights, health care, and the environment.

I support smart government, where citizens pool their resources to provide the services that make us a society. We are fortunate to live in Silicon Valley, where innovation and skill are rewarded. Besides the ingenuity of our neighbors, a common infrastructure is necessary to facilitate successful business. Therefore, it is important to ensure that everyone share in the obligation to fund that infrastructure. We need to strive for a fair taxation system, where everyone pays their fair share.

The future of our country relies on an educated populace. As a school board member and parent of school-age children, I am saddened that California has turned its back on our next generation. The values of our society are reflected in our funding priorities, and the fact that California spending on public education has dropped by more than 20% in the past decade is a travesty. The same is true for our public universities. We need to ensure that the UC system remains the top public research university system in the world and that CSU campuses have enough space to educate all qualified California students.

The Democratic Party is an important partner in these and other issues. I am proud to have been a leader in the local party for the past 15 years and look forward to continuing to support candidates who will enact the vision of California's majority.
