? 1. What experience related to city government would you bring to the City Council?

Answer from Rafael Sabic:

I have represented the residents of District 4 on the San Jose Neighborhood Commission since I was elected in 2008. The 30-member commission (3 commissioners per district) has worked on issues that impact our city and have made policy recommendations to city council and the mayor. In the past 4 years we have focused on the following issues: budget, police rotation policy, trees, concerns with potential sale of city owned assets and the elimination and consolidation of boards and commissions. I will take this same collaborative approach when working with my fellow city council members to deliver solutions that will benefit the residents and business owners on District 4 and the City of San Jose

? 2. What concerns are of particular importance to the city and how would you address them?

Answer from Rafael Sabic:

I will work to ensure that our city is fiscally responsible and supports Pension Reform (Measure B). I will work to promote San Jose as the ideal city for economic development where businesses can start or expand. I will work with community leaders and other city officials to re-instate public safety as a priority in the city: police, fire, libraries, community centers and anti- graffiti programs.

? 3. How would you balance the needs of the city as a whole with groups’ interests?

Answer from Rafael Sabic:

I will work to ensure that the residents and business owners in Alviso, North San Jose and Berryessa are informed on local and city wide issues and engaged in the decision making process. By empowering residents and making them part of the political process, my job will be to bring a balanced approach to ensure that the City is working toward the best interests of the residents and business owners of District 4 and the City of San Jose.
