Thank you for considering my candidacy for the Orange County Board of Education, Area One.

Like many of you, I am a parent. I am very proud of my children, who all have attended or are currently attending Santa Ana public schools. My 21-year old daughter, who graduated from Santa Ana High School and FIDM (the Fashion Insitute of Design and Merchandising) and is now working in fashion design at The Gap. My 19-year old son achieved the highest GPA in the SAUSD last year and he is now a top student at UCLA. My 15-year old is excelling at Godinez Fundamental High School, and my 8-year old son is a GATE student at John Muir Fundamental Elementary School.

I am a Little League and Cub Scout volunteer in Santa Ana, and my family attends Santa Ana's historic First Baptist Church. I believe in our young people - they can succeed, they just need the tools so they can advance.

As a parent I am a supporter of parental rights in education. To that end I believe it is important for our school administrators to communicate with all parents.

As a taxpayer I believe that our local government, including our school districts, should not waste our money. Too often education budgets waste millions of dollars on bloated administrations instead of putting that money in our classrooms. I also support Prop. 13 and will never support tax increases or bond measures, which are a total rip-off and result in higher property taxes.

I am supportive of parental choice in education as well. Public schools have worked for my kids, but parents should have plenty of choices, including home and private schools. I am myself a graduate of Don Bosco Technical Institute, a Catholic High School.

Orange County's Department of Education is one of the most successful Education Departments in the State of California and that success includes adult vocational training. As a Community College Teacher at Cerritos College, in the Adult Education department, I recognize the value of adult education and career training and will support those efforts as a member of the Orange County Board of Education.
