Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Margarita Lacabe

Candidate for
Member, Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of Alameda; Assembly District 18

This information is provided by the candidate

I am a democrat with a small "d" as well as a capital one. I ardently believe that a liberal democracy - one founded upon strong principles of civil liberties and human rights - is the best sort of government and one that we should all strive to have. I also believe that such government must guarantee all citizens economic, social and cultural rights, at a minimum as defined by international laws and treaties.

I think a sound education, equally founded on science and liberal arts, is essential for democracy to exist. Uneducated and uninformed citizens cannot make educated and informed decisions.

I'm a huge advocate of individual freedoms, including freedom of expression. But I don't believe that money should equal speech and I'm in favor of a constitutional amendment that would take away the personhood of corporations and private money from funding elections.

I believe many other things, but these should do for now :-)
