"A Superior Court judge hears three types of cases: civil, family, and criminal. I have broad experience in all three, and I've represented people on both sides of each type of case.

I'm committed to an efficient judicial system, which treats everyone with dignity and fairness. I'm ready to put my experience to work as your judge."

- Tara Flanagan

An "Outstanding" Prosecutor

As a Deputy District Attorney, Tara gained vast experience prosecuting criminals, and she was named an "Outstanding Domestic Violence Prosecutor" by the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

Providing Legal Aid to Low-Income People

As a legal aid attorney, Tara helped low-income people navigate the Superior Court system so that people who otherwise could not afford lawyers had access to justice.

Protecting Domestic Violence Survivors

Tara has represented domestic violence survivors and their children, helping them obtain court protections, restraining orders, and the financial support needed to be safe from harm.

Six Years As a Superior Court Temporary Judge

Since 2006, Tara has served as an Alameda County Superior Court Temporary Judge, presiding over traffic, restraining order, domestic violence, family law, and small claims cases.

Diversity and Real-Life Perspective

Tara believes the diversity of the court should reflect the diversity of our community. Currently, only 30% of Superior Court Judges are women. We also need judges with real-life perspective. Tara was one of seven kids raised by a single mom. She knows what it's like to struggle to make ends meet.
