Cassandra L. Jones

Strong government experience Now serving her second term on West Chester Borough Council:

  • Elected Vice President of Council for 2012-13.
  • As chair of the parking committee, played an important role in the design and construction of a new $12 million parking garage.
  • Was instrumental in helping close a $1 million Borough budget deficit for 2012.
  • Challenged the Liquor Control Board's expansion of liquor licenses in the Borough.
  • Closely involved in evaluating redevelopment options for a 30-acre Borough property.

Involved statewide and nationally:
  • National League of Cities: Member Human Development Committee; member Leadership Training Program.
  • Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities: Member.
  • National Black Caucus of Local and Elected Officials: Chair, Policy Development Committee. Serves the Democratic party:
  • Democratic committeeperson since 2006 for precinct 820 (West Chester Ward 2E).

A lifelong commitment to community activism. Defender of the rights of the disadvantaged. Proactive champion of smart community development.
  • Founding member West Chester's East End Neighborhood Association.
  • Instrumental in securing a $400,000 Elm Street Community Block Grant for sidewalks, trees, and other quality-of-life improvements for West Chester.
  • Helped create the EENA Education scholarship program for adults.
  • Mayor's Police Partnership team: Six-year member.
  • Care Center for Christ Daycare Center: Executive Board member.

Professional Excellence Cheyney University of Pennsylvania:
  • As Program Director and Project Manager for the Education and Science Departments, managed education grants totaling more than $3 million.
  • Honored in 2010 with Cheyney's Outstanding Employee Award for her service to the university community.
  • Named Woman of the Year by Zeta Phi Beta sorority in 2010.
