Higher Education

By Joseph M. Haas

Candidate for State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 187; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate
As someone who earned his degree as a non-traditional student, Joe knows the struggles many Pennsylvanians face in their pursuit of higher education. With the significant funding cuts enacted by the Corbett administration, obtaining a college degree is more daunting than ever. The additional funding cuts proposed for the 2012 budget+up to 30% for state-related universities (Penn State, Pitt, and Temple) and 20% for PASSHE members+are unacceptable.

Worse, as our economy and the quality of our public universities have suffered severely under this administration, those who attend college often leave school with burdensome debt and little hope of securing entry into the job market. Joe will lead the fight to improve our higher education system and contain the costs of tuition, so that Pennsylvania can get back to work.
