Strengthen Social Security and Medicare

By Richard D. Daugherty

Candidate for US Representative; Pennsylvania Congressional District; District 15; Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Social Security and Medicare work well. Major changes to both programs is unnecessary. However there are changes that can improve both.
Medicare has brought about medical miracles for senior citizens and their families. Senior citizens are enjoying better and longer lives and therefore can continue to serve their families, communities and nation. Eliminating fraud and abuse in the system will save billions. This can be done by improving fraud detection. The president has already updated Medicare reports so senior citizens can detect questionable practices faster. Following patients for thirty days after an admission to a hospital will ensure better care and less chance of a relapse, which will also save money. Even more can be done to cut costs, improve care, and eliminate fraud.

Social Security has virtually eliminated the devastating effects of poverty among the elderly. Eliminating the tax cap would provide decades of continued solvency.
