Honorable Michael A. Della Vecchia has served as a judge in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County since his appointment to the bench by Governor Tom Ridge in June of 2001 and his subsequent election in November 2001. Prior to the bench, Judge Della Vecchia practiced law in Allegheny County for 30 years with the firms of Evashavik & Della Vecchia; Rose, Schmidt, Hasley & DiSalle; and Brennan, Robins & Daley. The judge, in addition to practicing law, was the Recorder of Deeds of Allegheny County. Judge Della Vecchia initially served in the Family Division, where he presided over adult and juvenile matters and personally presided over the collection of approximately $1.7 million in overdue child support payments. He is currently a Civil Division trial judge and the sole judge for eminent domain matters, as well as one of two judges assigned to asbestos litigation. Judge Della Vecchia also settled all of the 200 plus Metropolitan Life consumer fraud cases.
