Smart Voter Full Biography for Judith Nealy Watts

Candidate for
Judge; Magisterial District Court; District 38-1-11

This information is provided by the candidate

My name is Judith Watts and I am running for Magisterial District Judge for the areas of Upper Pottsgrove Township, West Pottsgrove Township and voting wards 2, 3, and 4 of Pottstown Borough. I am an attorney with more than 16 years experience on both sides of the courtroom. I believe I am the most qualified candidate for this position and that I would be a fair and understanding Judge.

I was born and raised in the Pottstown area. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Chester University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I then went to law school and earned my Juris Doctorate degree from Penn State, The Dickinson School of Law. After passing the bar exam on my first attempt, I went to work representing the citizens of Pennsylvania as an Assistant District Attorney in Chester County. Following a successful eight year career as an Assistant District Attorney, I went into private legal practice in Pottstown. While my specialty is criminal defense work, I have also litigated other types of cases, including civil cases. I have defended individuals in court for the past 8 years, both privately and on behalf of the Montgomery County Public Defender's Office. I have extensive experience in District Court proceedings, having done thousands of hearings in a multitude of District Courts over the years.

My family has deep roots in the Pottstown community. My father, Reginald "Reggie" Nealy, was a police officer for many years with the Pottstown Police Department. I am married with two sons, ages seven and nine. We have owned our home in Upper Pottsgrove Township for eleven years. My husband, Ira Watts, is a retired State Trooper who now coaches tennis for Pottstown High School, The Hill School, and Brookside Country Club. We are both very active in the community and help to coach our children's sporting activities when possible. I have been actively involved with the Relay For Life of Pottstown for eight years. We are proud to call Pottstown our home.
