Why I am running.
Dear Neighbors and Friends of the 7th Ward:
My name is Tom Dougherty. I am the Republican Candidate for Commissioner of the 7th Ward of Radnor Township. Election Day is November 8. I have enjoyed meeting with many of the voters during my campaign and I appreciate the chance to briefly share my message with you.
I live on Lowrys Lane with my wife, Sherri, and our children, Tom and Heather. Sherri and I met on our first day at Villanova University School of Law in 1990 and we have been together since. We both practice law in Philadelphia. Tom and Heather attend Radnor public schools, and have both played sports in the Township. I have been fortunate to coach their baseball and softball teams. There are many families like ours in Radnor Township. There are also many single parent families and residents living on fixed incomes. As Commissioner, I will never lose sight of the fact that every dollar that Radnor Township spends comes from the people who earned it.
While my opponent is Commissioner John Fisher, I am not running against John. I am running for people who are tired of seeing their taxes raised 20% over the last two years while Township services declined. I am running for people who have been the victims of burglaries, car break-ins, and more serious crimes (Sherri and I have each had things stolen from the cars parked in our driveway). I am running for those who oppose buying more open space when Radnor Township has too much empty space in our business areas. Finally, I am running for those who want to work with Villanova University to address the problems created by a few college students while treating the responsible students as an asset to the community.
