Smart Voter Full Biography for Kimm Doherty

Candidate for
School Director; Radnor Township School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Kimm is both passionate and knowledgeable about high quality curriculum. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.A. in Educational Psychology, which focuses on the intersection between curriculum and motivation. A certified teacher with ten years experience in public schools, Kimm understands both the constraints and the possibilities of public education.

As the mother of four children who have attended Radnor schools since 1997, Kimm has volunteered in numerous ways -- through the PTOs, Radnor Educational Foundation, Radnor PAGE, RTSD Strategic Planning and the League of Women Voters. Currently an educational consultant and regular participant in RTSD Curriculum Committee meetings, Kimm believes that strong curricular offerings are the lifeblood of great schools.

Kimm supports smart fiscal stewardship as demanded by the Act 1 index, welcoming public participation at public meetings, and a proactive strategy to advance excellence. She is concerned about keeping class sizes reasonable, maintaining arts and athletic programs, and eliminating assessments that do not inform instruction.

Looking forward, Kimm knows the district can improve their science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum K-12 to encourage and prepare more students for STEM studies and careers. Preparing to compete in a global economy, our students would benefit from a language offering beyond Western Europe. Kimm would guide the Board to execute a plan for significant STEM and World Language review and renewal. The incoming Board needs to enable our administrators and staff to modernize our curriculum. Kimm has the vision and skills to get the work done.
