The last 4 years...campaign promises made and kept

By Patricia A. Booker

Candidate for School Director; Radnor Township School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Return focus on educational excellence, implement informed and displined spending, and ensure accountability...we have made a lot of progress but there is more work to do
In my first year as a Board member I lead the District's first cost savings task force made up of staff members from every school and admin. building. We uncovered $500,000 in savings and started the "going green" initiative to eliminate paper by going to electronic communications with our parents and students. Every year since then I have lead the charge to stay at or below the ACT 1 taxation level by encouraging the administration to identify efficiencies and budget more conservatively. With a projection of as much as a $17million deficit when the pension payments hit their high, there is more work to do...

I served as chair of the Curriculum committee for three years, during which time the committee took a greater role in determining the direction of the curriculum work, focusing attention on curriculum documentation efforts and alignment of District programs to state and national standards. By building this core we have created equity across the district while still allowing teachers the independence to be creative and excite learning. But there is more work to do...

As President of the Board I have made it a primary focus to hold the Board, the Administration and the District accountable for what we do and what we spend. Just one month after taking charge I led the Board and Administration in the creation and adoption of District Goal and Objectives. This 18 month road map, prioritized by the staff, has not only made our intentions clearer to the community and staff but has provided us all with a discipline in decision making that has allowed this Board to function at a high level. But there is more work to do...

In summary, I believe that my professional background in organizational structure and program management has served this District, our students and our taxpayers well. My connection in the schools and in the community as a volunteer has given me a clearer understanding of what is important to Radnor. With another four years on the Board I believe we will make this level of discipline a habit and something the community can count on going forward.

It takes 5 votes on this Board to move the District in the right direction...by voting for our whole team (Gartland, Modell, Partridge, Madden, Booker) you will empower us to continue to make Radnor a destination District.
