League Question:What steps should be taken to promote a sustainable mass transit system within Allegheny County and the larger region?

By Nicholas W. Futules

Candidate for County Council Member; County of Allegheny; Council District 7

This information is provided by the candidate
Answer: On December 4, 2007 Allegheny County Council voted for a drink and car rental tax to create dedicated funding for the Port Authority. Since then Allegheny County has been collecting funds in excess needed for matching funds required by the State. Lack of dedicated State funding caused a short fall of 27 million causing the Port Authority to make unwanted but necessary cut backs to service. As your Councilman we need to put the pressure on the State to create dedicated funding to keep transportation viable in Allegheny County.
