A brief list of some of the accomplishments Councilman Wendell Young has completed in his year on Council.
Accomplished:
- Created legislation that allows people to hail a taxi cab in Cincinnati
- Sponsored Motion for a feasibility study of sharing administrative services between Metropolitan Sewer District and Water Works, and the resulting study predicted savings of $68-$105 million over the next 10 years by doing so
- Sponsored a Resolution opposing the move of of the Post Office away from the Dalton Street location
- Repealed Marijuana Ordnance, made motion to move savings into Human Services Funding
- New traffic signal at California and Reading after citizen complaints
- Streets repaved on Forest Park Dr. after citizen complaints
- Sponsored the Resolution that declares Reds Opening Day an official ceremonial holiday in Cincinnati
- Sponsored Resolution opposing Senate Bill 5, testified before Ohio House in opposition
- Worked to bring grocery stores back to Roselawn and Clifton
- Worked in support of Christ Hospital, when they were under threat of shut down by the federal government
- Signed motion stopping casino money from being spent before public hearings
- Worked (and continues to work) closely with the community in support of keeping open the Walnut Hills branches of the YMCA, including hosting a public hearing attended by nearly 300 people
- Holding a series of public hearings for taxi reform, including the inclusion of accessible taxis and addressing how taxis can best work with Cincinnati's hotels and businesses
- Sponsored a Resolution in support of the Madisonville Community and the citizen input of their Community Advisory Committee for the Eastern Corridor Project
Supported in Voting/Actions:
- Health Clinics (including to create a new free, federally-funded health clinic in Avondale) and School Nurses
- Swimming Pools (helped find the funding to keep them open in 2011)
- Encouraged good government by reforming the dance hall and liquor license process
- Sought transparency by calling a hearing on the Diana Frey matter
- Worked to preserve funding for the indigent care levy
- Brought together a committee of leaders, engineers, and safety officers from Cincinnati and Covington to make the Brent Spence Bridge safer
