FOCUS ON THE FUTURE: PROMOTING EFFECTIVE GOVERNMENT

Challenges We Face

Making government more efficient and accountable not only provides economic benefits but also engenders a greater sense of confidence among Cincinnatians. Like many local governments across the country, Cincinnati is facing increasing deficits and decreasing tax revenues stemming from reduced spending and fewer jobs during the economic crisis.

City Council must find new ways to reduce the cost of operating the government, while increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of city services provided to Cincinnati residents.

Finding Solutions

As a member of City Council, Yvette will work to make Cincinnati's government more efficient and effective by promoting the following initiatives:

  • Reducing Bureaucracy: With limited resources, the Cincinnati government must use efficient practices. Yvette will seek to adopt new systems designed to reduce bureaucracy and save money at all levels of government, from council administration to the various city departments.

  • Balancing the Budget: A balanced budget is vital to provide essential services for all Cincinnatians. Yvette will promote the development of priorities and policy recommendations by City Council to guide the administration in its balanced budget recommendations. In addition, Yvette will promote the aggressive pursuit of economic and business development opportunities to increase the city's tax revenue.

  • Increasing Accessibility: Cincinnatians have the right to know their elected officials. On City Council, Yvette will work to increase government access by scheduling town-hall meetings, promoting meet and greets with council candidates, and participating in informal "house parties" to talk with interested citizens about their concerns.
