Vote for Sandy Leach

By Sandy J. (Kennedy) Leach

Candidate for Board Member; Princeton City School District

This information is provided by the candidate
My Name is Sandy Leach and I am running for re-election to the Princeton School Board. 4 yrs. ago I stated that it was important for the District to obtain an excellent rating. We did it. We achieved Excellence! We have made significant strides. We have reduced the achievement gap between African American students and Caucasian students from 19.1% to 12.8%, while raising achievement for all students. We must continue to focus on improved achievement for all of our students. Our teachers are using data like never before. We will continue to analyze our data to identify a plan for every student. We are implementing success for all in four of our elementary schools and we are evaluating several project based programs, including STEM and New Tech for our other elementary, middle, and high schools. This board believes that all of our students can achieve at high levels and won't be satisfied until we are successful.

Besides developing Goals for the District, the role of the board is to hire a Superintendent and CFO/Treasurer. We have hired outstanding people for both of those roles. Dr. Gary Pack and Jim Rowan are experts in many areas, including Curriculum/Achievement, Building Projects, Cost Attainment, Lobbying, and engagement. Both are high performing and well respected around the country. We are very fortunate to have them both leading the Princeton District. This board demonstrated leadership throughout the transition and as former President; I played an instrumental role in that process.

The Princeton Community passed a bond levy for a new middle school and high school complex. We appreciate your support. I would like to see that project through completion and ensure our promise of this huge project being done on time, within budget, and deliver a complex that our taxpayers will be proud of for a long time. I feel that my sourcing leadership experience and dealing with suppliers in my job at GE will be a benefit to the building project.

This board has demonstrated that we are willing to make tough decisions. We worked very hard to evaluate all cost out ideas and their impact on achievement. We reduced our per pupil spending by $2000 while minimizing any impact to the programs that make Princeton, Princeton. We need to continue to evaluate ways to reduce our cost, eliminate waste and get stakeholder input. We also need to be creative in coming up with ways to generate revenue. We will need to continue to Lobby at the state house to protect our revenue.

I feel I provide a broad perspective as a board member. I am a lifetime resident of Princeton, I am a graduate of Princeton, ('80), I am a parent of two graduates from Princeton, sons, Matt ('08) and Todd ('11), products of the Princeton Advantage. They both attend Ohio State. I feel this has provided me a better understanding of what our students need to be successful in college and beyond. My husband Bill ('78) is a teacher in the district. I have worked for GE Aircraft Engines for 26 years in the sourcing department. I am passionate about this district and the opportunities that it offers all of our children. I feel this broad experience is a benefit in making decisions as a board member and understanding the impact of those decisions.

As a board member, I have always tried to make decisions based on the best interest of all of our students and our taxpayers. I have been a constant voice, advocating for Excellence in all of our schools and for all of our students.

I would appreciate your support for re-election to the Princeton School Board on November 8th.

Thank you for your time.
