Jenny Kilgore Candidate for Mayor of the Village of Glendale

Tim, an architect, served the village for 11 years as a member of our Glendale Planning and Historic Preservation Commission, as well as has worked with many residents as they planned additions or renovations on their homes.

I have taught for 27 years, 15 for landmark Christian School, the last 12 at Miami University and for the graduate departments at Indiana Wesleyan University and The College of Mount St. Joe. I volunteer at church teaching Junior High Sunday School and my husband and I volunteer as coordinators of the local admissions efforts for the United States Military Academy at West Point.

My involvement with the community includes participating as youth sports coach and referee and membership in Glendale Heritage Preservation, Centennial Garden Club, Lunch & Learn, Glendale Literary Club, Monday Class, the Economic Development Committee, and the Chamber of Commerce.

My involvement representing Glendale in county-wide organizations includes participating on the First Suburbs of South West Ohio Executive Committee, Hamilton County Municipal League Executive Committee, Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission, Planning Partnership, & Hamilton County Watershed.

I am completing my second term as councilwoman & was selected by council to serve as vice mayor in 2007. I feel privileged to serve residents of the Village of Glendale.

I campaign on five points:
First: As councilwoman and as mayor my emphasis continues to be on the smooth and sound running of the village of which there are two parts: providing residents with the quality of service at the level they expect at reasonable cost and monitoring the development of our neighboring communities and how that growth affects Glendale. Of significant influence on the quality of life in our village is the commercial development in neighboring communities. One goal is to limit any adverse effects these projects may have on our village, including visual impact, increase in traffic, and non-resident activity. Within the village I represent Glendale's interests by attending and participating in: Village of Glendale Council, committee meetings, and the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. One of the biggest challenges we have is dealing with the increasing costs of materials & services as sources of funds evaporate: such as lower property taxes and the elimination of estate ax, local government fund, and the tangible property tax that supports our public schools. Savings may be generated through planned purchases in collaboration with neighboring county municipalities. I attend he Hamilton county Regional Planning Commission, Planning partnership, am a member of the Executive Committees of both the First Suburbs Consortium of SW Ohio & the Hamilton County Municipal League. All these are venues through which partnerships may be established.
Second: Monitoring the commercial development of our neighboring communities and how that growth affects Glendale is essential. Although we have permanent natural buffers on two borders + the Green zone to the south and Oak Hill Cemetery to the north + we need to watch the non-permanent buffers - the Glenview Golf Club to the west and Landmark Baptist Temple property to the east. Current projects of note include Sharonville's "Northern Lights" initiative to bring hotel, retail and entertainment developments along the Chester Road corridor, which parallels Interstate 75 north of Sharon. There is still potential for development by Evendale on our eastern border and Woodlawn along Glendale Milford, as well as continued development of the Tri-county shopping area.
Third: Preserving historical landmarks that, in part, define Glendale culture,
Forth: Maintaining the familial 'village milieu' within the convenience of metropolitan Greater Cincinnati, and
Last: Fostering a collegial council environment that encourages open dialogue and greater resident participation.

The most important village asset is its residents. I envision a self-sufficient, vital Glendale with amenities that support and attract young families, regional efforts to purchase materials and goods to control escalating costs, maintaining Glendale as the respite of clam in an otherwise hectic world that it is.

I support lowest possible taxes; highest value return maintaining safety, utilities, and infrastructure; collaboration with county municipalities to reduce costs providing goods & services; and outside &/or private funding for a railroad quiet zone.

I am running for mayor of the Village of Glendale because as an educated, intelligent, grounded, stable, fiscal conservative I have skills that benefit the village and I am committed to continue to provide the `Glendale Quality of Life' we want to provide for our families and their future.
