Questions & Answers

1. What services do you believe should be considered basic and essential for the Village?

Basic and essential services include snow and garbage removal, street maintenance and lighting, and fire and police protection. We need to have municipal offices to handle Village business and functions. Other services that are vital to the quality of life in Evendale are our recreation and social opportunities. The sum of all these services are part of what makes our community safe, attractive and very livable and pleasant.

2. How would you balance the Village Budget?

Our budget is balanced now through some belt tightening and a small increase in income tax. Village employees have had increases in the amounts they pay for health insurance. We are slightly reducing number of employees through attrition, either by not replacing an employee who retires, or replacing a full-time retiree with a part-time employee. We have asked departments to keep expenses level, with no increases for payroll or other expenses. We are currently ahead of projections in income though so we have a modest surplus on income for this year to date.

3. What actions will you take to support clean air?

Air regulations are enforced primarily at the state level, however we can do some initial investigation of problems within the Village that become evident through appearance or odors. This can apply to vehicles as well as industrial emissions. Tailpipe emissions from vehicles can be addressed by police as they patrol the Village. Industrial discharges could be addressed by contacting the industry and requesting improvements. If that does not bring results, it should be referred to Ohio EPA.
