Statement of DAVID WHITTUM, Candidate for
Member, Sunnyvale City Council, Seat 4
Occupation: Incumbent
Age: 50
Education and Qualifications:

Harvard AB physics, math; UC Berkeley PhD physics; former Stanford faculty; licensed engineer

I ran for office to restore accountability for neighborhood quality of life, to improve the choices we make in planning and public works, and to ensure transparency and efficiency in government. In my first year we hired a new City Manager and began a renaissance in City Hall.

Public safety is our top priority and to support this and all our services we must control personnel costs. I consistently voted against bargaining unit contracts that we cannot afford. To preserve our tax base and local jobs, I opposed opportunistic development and sought to preserve our manufacturing and commercial sector. Completion of the downtown is key and I have strived to move it forward.

I sponsored a measure to increase requirements on developers to provide for parks. Over opposition of special interests, Council approved this "park dedication requirement" at the highest rate permitted by law. This measure will benefit Sunnyvale in perpetuity. I ask for your support. Please visit http://www.davewhittumforcouncil.com
