Dave lives on Angel Avenue with his wife Dolors and his 9-year old daughter. Dolors is finishing her studies in Interior Design at West Valley College. Dave has lived in the Bay Area for 24 of the last 27 years.

Dave is a physicist and an engineering manager in the medical equipment industry responsible for the design and engineering of charged particle accelerators employed for cancer therapy and cargo inspection. Before his present job he was an assistant professor at Stanford University, and prior to that he was a tenured research faculty member ("joshu") at KEK, The National Laboratory for High Energy Physics in Tsukuba, Japan.

He received his bachelors in physics combined mathematics from Harvard, and his Ph.D. in physics from U.C. Berkeley. He is a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the Acoustical Society of America, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the National Association of Environmental Professionals. He is a professional electrical engineer licensed in the State of California, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a Fellow of the American Physical Society.

His military service included simultaneous membership in the 2/159 Infantry Regiment (Mechanized) of the 40th Infantry Division, California Army National Guard and the ROTC program at UC Berkeley. He served in C Co. based in Redwood City, and after commissioning, served with B. Co. then based on Hedding Street in San Jose, as Rifle Platoon Leader. He is a graduate of US Army Airborne School, Infantry Officer Basic Course, and he served on active duty for training during the time of the first Gulf War. He was awarded the California Commendation

He is a graduate of Leadership Sunnyvale, a member of Sunnyvale's American Legion Post 344, and a coach for U10G in Sunnyvale's Region 44 of the American Youth Soccer Organization. He also serves as a referee, instructor and scheduler.

He served the Heritage District Neighborhood Association as Secretary from 2004 until his election to the City Council in 2007. As Secretary, he lead a number of neighborhood improvement projects in the downtown, appearing frequently before Council to advocate for quality of life issues for residents and businesses in the downtown, including multiple appearances on behalf of additional street cleanings on Murphy, on behalf of a playset for Murphy Park, an ADA compliant entrance to Sunnyvale Station from the north side and to resolve issues with the Mathilda project.
