Healthy, Safe and Clean Environment

By Homer Tong

Candidate for Council Member; City of Cupertino

This information is provided by the candidate
Homer believes that all residents of Cupertino have a right to live in good health, with safe streets and neighborhoods, and a clean environment.
One of Homer's highest priorities as a School Board member is the health and safety of students. He will address these issues on a broader basis on City Council.

Safety:
Traffic safety has been a problem with few great solutions. He, together with the school board, have been working together with the city to resolve this problem for years. There are just too many students and parents descending on narrow streets to and from schools daily. School clusters such as Monta Vista, Kennedy, and Lincoln amplify the problem. The City has provided more active presence of Sheriff officers but more needs to be done. On City Council, Homer will continue to work with schools to find better solutions.

Health:
He is also concerned about water and air pollution coming from the nearby Lehigh Cement Plant and quarry that could do harm especially to the very young and weak. Homer is a Professor of Chemistry and knows something about the toxicity of many chemicals being emitted by Lehigh. He would like to see the cement plant take more positive action to reduce toxic and environmental pollutions an more quickly resolve ongoing notices of violations and stop constantly incurring more. Lehigh needs to try harder to be good neighbors.
