Statement of NANCY NEWKIRK, Candidate for
Governing Board Member, Sunnyvale School District
Occupation: Incumbent, Early Childhood Educator
Age: 56
Education and Qualifications:

It has been my honor to serve you on the governing board of the Sunnyvale School District. I am proud of the research based practices used district wide. Despite recent state cuts in education, our schools continue to perform above the state average. The dedication of our teachers, principals, staff and parents is reflected in our schools receiving recognition at the state and national levels.

In addition to service on our board, I represent the board as a member of the Santa Clara County School Board Association. I have served on Delegate Assembly of the California State School Boards Association (CSBA). Currently I serve on CSBA's School Health Advisory Committee and as Government Relations Chair.

In this time of fiscal constraint, it is crucial to utilize resources wisely. In order to be held accountable locally for continuously improving student outcomes, we must have the ability to change ineffective parts of state infrastructure. Advocating for reforms, both state and federal, and accountability at the local level, we can achieve excellence in public education that our children deserve. I seek your vote of continued support.

Background: Graduate CSBA Masters of Governance program, B.S, Nursing University of Florida, veteran U.S. Navy Nurse Corps
