Statement of JOHN MUMY, Candidate for
Governing Board Member, Sunnyvale School District
Occupation: Parent
Age: 50
Education and Qualifications:

Our children need a strong back-up plan in case things don't work out on American Idol. A good education should be Plan A for being successful, productive members of our society. Together, parental guidance and Sunnyvale Schools provide the plan to help children make good choices and avoid the pitfalls that limit success. We need to create an environment where teachers are fully supported by both parents and effective, competent administrators to insight curiosity and establish attitudes of excellence, cooperation, and responsibility. Our schools need board members that are directly involved with them.

Having been a regular classroom volunteer since 2005, I've been stopped by high schoolers in the park, remembering the help they got years earlier... and by their parents in grocery lines talking about their concerns. With a daughter in Kindergarten, at Lakewood School, I am even more involved. I, too, share other parents' concerns about the future of our schools. In these trying times, I will fight to preserve our children's right to the same educational opportunities that generations of Americans, before them, have had. With your vote, you will have direct accessibility to your school board through a fully involved parent.
