Questions & Answers

1. How would you determine that the schools are using federal, state and local funds wisely and fairly and how would you report your findings to the community?

I question everything. As a school board member, it's my duty to scrutinize everything the administration does.

I encourage parents and other interested community members to attend school board meetings and PTA meetings but mostly volunteer in schools, helping teachers, and talking to each other, teachers, administrators at both the school site and district level, and school board members.

2. Are the schools offering instruction appropriate to the diverse educational abilities of all the students?

While instruction appropriate to diverse abilities is offered, I believe that the district is jumping through hoops in the NCLB game of raising test scores.

3. Where do you want the District to be five years from now? What steps should the District take to get there?

I would like to see Sunnyvale School District become a world class team with a school board that is fully informed, cross-checking information from the administration with that from classified and certificated staff as well parents and other concerned citizens. The school board will no longer be in the dark about issues as there will always be questions asked and feedback heard.

It is important that the administration be open to community feedback and competent in their duties with immediate responsiveness. Above all, the administration must be rigorously honest with the school board and public and maintain absolute transparency.

With these in place I believe the teachers will feel freer to teach from their hearts and really connect with all our children
