Statement of PAT MEYERING, Candidate for
Member, Sunnyvale City Council, Seat 5
Occupation: Lawyer/College Instructor
Education and Qualifications:

As an experienced attorney, Foreign Service veteran, former City Housing Commissioner and Environmental Law Instructor at De Anza College, I have the knowledge and attention to detail to serve residents' needs.

1. Sunnyvale's downtown development failure has cost Millions in lost sales tax revenue. The most recent developer gave thousands of dollars to councilmembers, who then voted not to enforce penalties against that developer for stopping the project. We must bar councilmembers from taking money from individuals who do business with the City.

2. The 48% pay raise and the lifetime medical reimbursement councilmembers have taken in the current two terms must be revoked. Council has cut street paving, library hours and senior services, and must share the sacrifice.

3. The Grand Jury found that the Council violated California law, and the City Manager failed to report the full cost of certain Council actions. As a League of Women Voters Boardmember, I supported opening Council decisions to Sunnyvale's residents.

4. We must reduce the $320,000+ annual compensation packages for the city manager and attorney, to match surrounding cities and the private sector.

5. We must work to restore access to the County Library system for Sunnyvale's families and children.
