LESLIE'S BALLOT CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT

By Leslie A. Wachtel

Candidate for Board Member; Mill Valley School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Our Mill Valley School District faces serious financial challenges due to decreased state funding and significantly increased enrollment. Only by working together will we find creative and effective solutions. I have been a school volunteer leader for over 20 years and believe this real life experience combined with my strong collaboration skills will help us to navigate these difficult times.

A Mill Valley resident since 1984, my husband and I have raised our four children here. They have greatly benefited from Mill Valley's exceptional public schools. I want to ensure that all Mill Valley families have these same opportunities.

My 20 years of volunteer leadership experience includes serving as Old Mill PTA President; Kiddo! (Mill Valley Schools Community Foundation) Chair during the last economic downturn when we successfully doubled annual fundraising efforts to $1.2 million; Mill Valley School District Strategic Planning Committee member; Tam High PTSA President; Tam High Foundation Chair; and The Redwoods Retirement Community Board member.

My priority is to work collaboratively to find solutions to our financial problems while ensuring that students continue to receive an excellent education that incorporates best practices.

I have always sought to make a difference in our schools and in our community. I ask for your vote on November 8.
