Candidate for
Board Member; Dixie School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I grew up in Marin County and am proud to have attended Marin County public schools from first grade through high school. My husband Eric and I have lived in San Rafael for the last twelve years and have two young children who attend Vallecito Elementary School. I have been an active parent volunteer since my oldest child began at Vallecito by volunteering in classrooms; serving on the Vallecito School Site Council, as a Room Parent and on a hiring committee to select a new principal; and staffing phone-banks for CanDo! and Measure A.

As an active parent volunteer for the Dixie School District, I am wholeheartedly dedicated to the continued success of the District to ensure an excellent education for all children. This dedication stems not only from a desire to provide community service, but also from an ingrained belief that my personal experience attending Marin County public schools positioned me well for college, law school and my professional career. I want all children in the Dixie School District to have these same opportunities.

I have worked as a municipal law attorney since graduating from Lewis & Clark Law School in 1995. Since 1999 I have been employed as a Deputy Marin County Counsel. In that capacity, I am Co-Chair of the Marin County Counsel Employment Law Team. In addition, I provide general legal advice to numerous Marin County Departments, as well as many independent special districts, including Fire Protection Districts, Community Services Districts and Recreation Districts. Prior to joining the Marin County Counsel's Office, I worked as an Assistant City/Town Attorney.

As an attorney representing many local governments for over fifteen years, I have gained invaluable professional experience in several areas overseen by the Dixie School Board, including personnel administration, labor relations, policy development, appeal hearings and budgets. Moreover, I have extensive legal knowledge regarding parliamentary procedure, the Brown Act, the Public Records Act and other laws and regulations governing the Dixie School Board's conduct.
