Neighborhood relations and taxpayer transparency

By Stephanie O'Brien

Candidate for Board Member; Marin Community College District

This information is provided by the candidate
The College of Marin can and must be a good neighbor to the community. Sharing facilities, providing access, responding to neighborhood environmental concerns and seeking common ground are essential. My experience in decision making within a shared governance process will allow me to help facilitate a more effective engagement with the staff of the college and neighbors of both campuses. I commit to be both accessible and responsive to all of the stakeholders, including the public, students, faculty, staff and taxpayers.

Public education finance can be a quagmire for those not fully trained in its nuances and variables. The taxpayers of Marin County need assurances that their bond funds are being spent with forethought and wisdom relative to operational costs and requirements over the life of the new facilities. My long experience in management of capital improvement and maintenance funds for community colleges will provide valuable insight to the Bd. of Trustees.
