Smart Voter Political Philosophy for David Paland

Candidate for
Board Member; Brooktrails Township Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate

As a law school graduate, I have seen the futility and the high cost of trying to protect our property rights through the Courts. If we voted to lower base rates the initiative would likely end up in court for years with no guarantee of success. There are too many loopholes in the law that can be used to frustrate the will of the voters. To protect our property from increasing fees, we need three directors who are determined to end unnecessary spending. Costs can be reduced while still providing good service.
For example, since 2003, District wages and benefits have increased at over three times the rate of inflation. If employee spending had only kept pace with inflation since 2003, the District would have saved $342,998.49 in this fiscal year alone. This fiscal year, the District will spend $1,298,194 for the District's 121/2 employees, up 7.1% from last year, even though the inflation rate is only up by 2.1%. On average, the District will spend $103,855.52 for each employee this fiscal year. If elected, I will strive to obtain the lowest water and sewer base rates possible without compromising service.
