Candidate Statement

By Lisa Christine Wilkin

Candidate for Governing Board Member; El Segundo Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Statement of district accomplishments in the past 4 years.
I am proud of what the District has accomplished while I've been on the School Board. In the past year alone, under severe financial constraints, a few of the things the District has achieved include accreditation for Arena High School for the first time, receiving recognition for El Segundo Middle School as an International Baccalaureate Candidate School, creating career-pathway programs for our high school students in Engineering as well as Arts and Entertainment. El Segundo Unified School District was one of the first districts in California to award Certificates of Biliteracy to our graduating seniors who have demonstrated fluency in two or more languages. We have completed, on time and on budget, renovations of the High School athletic and performing arts facilities and converted the high school woodshop into a state-of-the-art Engineering Lab. We have also implemented a number of cost savings measures in the district including an Energy Efficiency program that has saved the District over $84,000 over the past year from reduced energy costs. And our standardized test scores continue to rise year after year.

I'm a life-long resident of El Segundo. My children and I attended El Segundo schools and are graduates of El Segundo High School. I have volunteered in the El Segundo schools in the classrooms, in PTAs, and School Site Councils since my children began their education. I am a contributor to the El Segundo Education Foundation and a member of the Superintendent's Roundtable. I am committed to continuing my service to the district long into the future.

I truly enjoy working with others to make our schools the best they can be. I know you would agree that all our children's futures depend on their educational experience. We are fortunate to have outstanding public schools in El Segundo. I want to be part of continuing that excellence.

Along with your support, I would like to hear your comments about our schools. Please take a few minutes to send me an email. I would like to continue to represent you, the community, and the children as a member of the El Segundo Unified School District Board of Trustees.
