Keeping Students in Our District

By Rob Hammond

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Monrovia Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Every student lost through interdistrict transfers cost our district $9000.00.
In numbers reported from the Monrovia Unified District and published in the Pasadena Star News in August 2011, Monrovia Unified School District had 112 students transfer out of our district into other public school districts. Each Student that leaves our district is a loss to our district and a gain to the district the student transfers to. The loss of 112 students and the subsequent loss of funding equates to over one million dollars in reduced revenue to our district. In order to maintain our students and attract other students from other districts I propose to increase programming in music, arts, language, vocational education, and any educational programming desired by our community. During tough economical times like we are living in now, being efficient and maximizing funding through entrepreneurial programming is not a luxury, it is mandatory. My goal is to make sure our students have the educational experience they deserve and desire.
