Position Papers
High student-interest programs must be retained
Modern students need to find an attraction in school. If Culver City continues to support and expand such programs as language immersion, the high school advanced placement program and athletics, our educational progress will continue.
Officials must respond to parental concerns
Parents form a bond with educators during a child's education. Both are essential to a successful adult. Ignoring parental observations and issues runs the risk of a school district being overwhelmed when a problem intensifies.
Educators must challenge excessive state and federal testing
Testing has become an end in itself. At some point the idea of periodic checks to verify comprehension was foregone, and teachers and students were subjected to unconscionable hours of testing. Deceleration of testing must be implemented to accommodate sufficient time for critical thinking strategies to be developed.
