Preserve and expand the programs that make our schools great.

By Laura Chardiet

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Culver City Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I will find creative ways to preserve and expand our arts, athletics, career education, immersion, and other programs that make our schools great.
The State of California has cut education funding nearly every year that my kids have been in school. In recent years the cuts have been draconian, but by joining in common purpose, we can put an end to conversations about who and what to cut. Together we can find creative ways to support struggling students, expand language immersion in the upper grades, fund the arts, athletics and other quality educational programs for which our Culver City public schools are known. My experience as an educator, an advocate, and an active PTA parent gives me a unique perspective on how to approach these challenges.

As a member of the school board, I will begin by maximizing all current funding streams (Average Daily Attendance, Title I, Workforce Investment Act, etc.). I would also continue the work of our current school board in using existing capital improvement funds to modernize the Frost Auditorium, upgrade our athletic fields, and install solar panels, all of which could create new revenue streams for our general fund.

I will also work to develop more partnerships between our schools and our city as well as our local businesses, so that we can pull together the many talents and resources available in our community and put them to work for our kids.

These are my goals, and I know how to foster the collaborative spirit necessary to achieve them, so that together we can fulfill the dreams that we all share for our children.
