We Still Have Much to Accomplish

By Harry Norris

Candidate for El Dorado Irrigation District; Division 5

This information is provided by the candidate
In the next four years I want to accomplish the following:

  • Work to fix the Public Employee Retirement System.
  • Require EID employees to pay their full share for retirement benefits.
  • Finalize new water rights to benefit EID ratepayers.
  • Continue to serve as your "watchdog", eliminating wasteful spending.
EID, like most agencies, is burdoned with employee retirement costs which are unsustainable. I am working directly with state legislators to bring PERS benefits in line with reality and with the private sector. It will be an uphill battle, but one which must be fought.

At the end of the present EID employee labor contract, I will insist that EID employees pay their full share of PERS retirement benefits and accept other cost cutting measures.

The Bureau of Reclamation and other agencies have held up access to EID's new water rights at Folsom for over ten years. The water is ours, but they continue to require endless studies and an expensive temperature contol device (TCD). I will not agree to paying $32 million for the TCD that does not benefit EID ratepayers one bit. I think that we will win this one in the next four years.

Finally, I will never stop looking for savings and will analyze every spending proposal to minimize money spent.
