Achievement is not a racial issue

By Myron W Goldman

Candidate for Director; Cheltenham Township School District; Democratic, Republican Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Children must be seen as individuals with strengths and weaknesses not members of a group
While an "Achievement Gap" has been identified for African-American children, and while the overall achievement level for children who are African-American needs to rise, the "Achievement Gap" exists for many students who are underachieving.

Each child is an individual and skin color doesn't have much to do with learning and achievement.

All children should be given the opportunity to succeed in school. The district, teachers and principals need to provide the medical, psychological, nurturing and academic help each individual child requires. Children with learning disabilities need to be willingly offered helpful services.

To meet the needs of an individual child, and to encourage the child to give his/her best effort,a tone needs to be established where district personnel, parents and students talk with each other from a perspective of caring and compassion.

We must always remember that every child is a person who is worthy of feeling valued.
