Support Comprehensive and Creative Budgeting Strategies

By Beth A. Ludwig

Candidate for Director; North Allegheny School District; Democratic, Republican Party

This information is provided by the candidate
For almost a decade now,the Zero Based Budgeting strategy utilized by the North Allegheny School District has served us well. We have consistently produced exceptional results on all state and national tests. Community taxes have remained stable with two increases and two reductions in recent years. Our millage is the 4th lowest in Allegheny County.

It is my belief that we provide outstanding results at a reasonable cost to our taxpayers.

Unfortunately, drastic cuts in the state budget, combined with rising retirement costs, fuel costs, etc. have created extreme budget challenges. Next year will likely be worse.

ZBB won't be enough. We will need to rethink many of the ways we deliver our outstanding education to North Allegheny students. We will need help from our Union employees. We will need to carefully examine all future contracts in light of reasonable pay and healthcare contributions. We will also need to think outside the box concerning cyber education, consolidation of buildings, etc.

However, I continue to believe that if any district can continue its history of educational excellence, it is North Allegheny!
