Energy

By George Newberry

Candidate for United States Representative; District 36

This information is provided by the candidate
The President plans to open up some of the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and the North Coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, which shifts our dependence from foreign to domestic oil.
We need to eliminate our dependence on oil completely. The private sector must be encouraged to accelerate their developments in solar and wind power. Paying $1,000 to install home solar panels to save $5/month in electricity costs (a quote I received this week on my home) isn't going to cut it.

We need to work with the auto industry to make electric cars more efficient with greater range, as well as release fuel cell cars sooner, at an affordable cost to the average citizen. This can be done by suspending the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Act penalty they pay for not meeting an EPA-set MPG average for their fleet, in return for their showing how they would use these dollars for R&D to produce the more efficient and affordable non-fossil fuel automobiles sooner.

To reduce the cost of water in Southern California, we should take a look at the feasibility of developing desalinization and water recycling plants.
