My name is Steven Veres. I'm a candidate for the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees Seat #3 and I respectfully ask for your vote.

I was born and reared in Los Angeles. I attended local schools and graduated from UCLA. I come to you as an experienced and qualified candidate with the common sense and know how to make a difference.

I'm a Community College Teacher that has relevant work experience in local and state government. I'm passionate about public education and job training and I'm motivated to make this College District a top-notch institution while never losing sight of the need for it to be a good neighbor and community partner.

The Los Angeles Community College District made a difference for my family. My mother, father, wife and siblings all took advantage of job training, college transfer programs and recreation opportunities. Our family is better today because of it. I want to provide direction and leadership so that the colleges can make a difference for you and your family too.

My top priorities are to (1) Improve student success. To do this student support services must improve. Low transfer and graduation rates can not be tolerated and with unemployment at 12% we need to get serious about getting people trained or re-trained and back out into the job market; (2) Protect Education Budget. We need to stand up to State and Local budget challenges. I commit to being a strong advocate while ensuring that College District dollars are efficiently and responsibly utilized. We need to be creative and we must work collaboratively in funding the projects and programs we care about; and finally (3) Accountability and Transparency in Bond Construction. With Billions of taxpayer dollars approved for a modernization construction effort, I commit to be a watchdog in overseeing appropriate planning and lawful use.
