Mission Statement:

Elevate the Los Angeles Community College District to become the frontrunner in setting academic and vocational standards of excellence for community colleges nationwide.

I am fighting to put Los Angeles Community Colleges FIRST in today's global economy through:

Achieving Academic Excellence

Education programs should be engaging, relevant and challenging. A rigorous and relevant academic program prepares students for today's global market. By integrating technology into the learning environment, we can enhance the education skills through cooperative and collaborative engagement in class.

Building Fiscal Responsibility

The budget crisis has encumbered the State of California and the Department of Education, especially for our Community Colleges. I have lobbied school boards, superintendents, and Chief Business Officers, demanding greater accountability and fiscal management of allocated state, county, and district funds.

If chosen by the people of Los Angeles, one of the first things I will do is ensure transparency of how tax dollars are being spent in the everyday function of the colleges and building construction bond money, how is it being spent. We must have transparency AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Cultivating Success after Graduation

Our Education goals must align with today's global market. We have not created career paths that are meaningful for job employment. Not every student will go to a 4 year college, but every student should be fully equipped for the 21st century global market. There must be a balance of Vocational Training and Academics in our Community Colleges for a successful future!

Join Lydia's team and together we can make LA Community Colleges #1 in the Nation!
