John C. Fields' Platform + Glendora City Council

  • Provide Managerial and Financial Oversight. Monitor and evaluate the use of Glendora taxpayers' dollars. With 30+ years of professional management experience, a BA degree in public administration, and an MBA degree from Claremont Graduate School, I am well equipped to optimize the city's scarce resources by fine-tuning its organization and structure. For me, the bottom line is: What's the least expensive way to provide high quality essential services?

  • Promote Small Business. As a Glendora Chamber member, former Executive Director of the West Covina Chamber, and Vice President of the Greater El Paso Chamber, I know the importance of small business. We need to think outside the box to recruit businesses that will not compete with our current retail sector. I will strive to attract high tech firms, corporate headquarters, and clean industry to increase both tax dollars and high-paying, local jobs for Glendorans.

  • Implement an "Historic Beautification" Plan. Incorporating both historic preservation and beautification concepts. We have already identified and restored a handful of sites, including Big Tree Park, Rubel Pharms, and "The Glendora Bougainvillea." As a Life Member of the Glendora Historical Society and a member of the Castle Conservation Committee for Rubel Pharms, I feel a comprehensive plan should be developed which would include themed architectural guidelines, rock curbing, specific street trees, street furniture, and lighting.

  • Expand Opportunities and Experiences for Glendora's Youth and Families. All academic and youth organizations need to partner with the city to provide opportunities for children to experience: scholastic excellence, athletic participation, and musical training. All children deserve the chance to: earn good grades, play on a sports team, and learn to play an instrument. Most importantly, I want to get the kids outside in the fresh air... walking, hiking, swimming, riding horses, etc.... away from their T.V's and computers.

  • Secure "Peace of Mind" and Quality of Life for Glendora Seniors. I am personally committed to keeping the gold in the "Golden Years," for our seniors by preserving Prop.13's protection, and limiting the amount of property tax a local government can charge its citizens. I support the programs that enhance seniors' quality of life, such as those being offered at the La Fetra Senior Center. Finally, I will personally continue to provide musical entertainment to the community at the wherever I can find a piano or organ and an enthusiastic audience.

  • Revisit Land Use. Review the General Plan and Specific Plans. There is virtually no need for additional residential development in our "bedroom community." We must limit future residential development (other than those plans already in the pipeline), which can result in an increase of existing residential property values. Let's use our major transportation arteries for corporate headquarters, high tech companies, and clean light industry, rather than high density residential.

  • Promote Arts and Cultural Events. Let's develop and promote more Arts and Cultural events. Let's re-create the San Gabriel Valley Symphony using Citrus College as the performance venue. Let's re-establish a Glendora Community Band playing at Summer Saturday Concert series in a large traditional gazebo-style bandstand in Gladstone Park. Let's promote Rubel Pharms and Castle, with a Renaissance Faire and other musical activities, such as silent movie screening with theater organ accompaniment. Let's promote more use of the Library, especially by children. As Glendora becomes increasingly diverse, let's create more cultural festivals, from Fiestas to Middle Eastern Bazaars.
