Candidate for
State Representative; District 156

This information is provided by the candidate

Like many who live here now, I was born and raised in southeastern Pennsylvania and grew up in a close knit family with my mother and father. My dad worked as an electrical engineer for GE and my mom raised the family. Today, my father, George, lives in Hersheys Mill. Together, my parents taught me the importance of commitment to family, hard work, service to community, and using common sense.

Education has always been important to me and continues to be today. After graduating early from high school at the age of sixteen, I attended Drexel University for two years before needing to go back to work to save money to pay for the rest of my college education. While working full-time at GE, I registered as a full-time student at Villanova University and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I later earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from West Chester University.

My wife Michele and I have been married for twenty-two years and we have two wonderful children, Daniel and Mark. Michele is a radiologic technologist at Paoli Hospital where she has assisted many local women with their health care needs. She is a dedicated wife and mother who truly loves her work and helping the patients she serves. We live in East Goshen Township where we attend St. Peter & Paul Church.

Michele and I are very active in our children's lives. As an Eagle Scout myself, I have always understood the importance of community service and helping others. That is why we have encouraged our sons to do the same and why I have volunteered thousands of hours in leadership roles to their scouting activities and the activities of other local children. I believe the saying that our children are our future is true and I always strive to keep this in mind when working with young people. I have also volunteered my time at my sons' school and as a community college adjunct teacher.

After working for local companies in the electrical engineering field, I decided it was time to go into business for myself. I formed Truitt Engineering and have been in business for more than ten years. As a small businessman, I have experienced firsthand the government bureaucracy, red tape and tax structure that continues to prevent Pennsylvania from being competitive with other states and nations + and makes it harder rather than easier for small businesses to create jobs for citizens. This must change if we are going to attract new employers and encourage our current employers to create the family sustaining jobs necessary to grow our economy. This is not only necessary for the employers, but for the workers who need good paying jobs.
